Ameenah Bint Samuel is on a journey to become the “quintessential Muslim homemaker.” It’s the impetus behind her online magazine simply and appropriately titled Mariam Poppins. Here she and her contributing writers celebrate the joys of homemaking, homeschooling and motherhood.
When asked how she came up with the idea for her magazine, Ameenah answers, “ I got started one day sitting at home wishing and dreaming. Then my husband and twin sister [were] telling me [to get] active and move toward my goals of publishing my own magazine. So one day I designed my own logo, trademarked my name, opened a Facebook page and started moving. It’s a work in progress.”
Mariam Poppins is a relatively new business venture and has been publishing helpful information for Muslim moms for about three months now; but that’s not all. “We sell a magazine and organizational charts for umis(Arabic for “mothers),” she explains.
The message Ameenah hopes Mariam Poppins sends its readers is clear: “We really believe in inspiring sisters to be and do their best. To get out of their own way. Sometimes women are their own roadblock – we want to help them not be.”
